Linux Hosting specializes in virtual servers, and we are here to enrich your knowledge in this field and help you choose the server that best suits your needs. Here you will find some of the most frequently asked questions about virtual servers—and, of course, the answers.
What is a virtual server?
A virtual server, or VPS, is a type of website hosting that mimics hosting on a dedicated physical server. In the past, anyone who needed particularly powerful storage had to buy or rent a dedicated physical server, which would be theirs alone, and maintain it themselves. The costs were high, and maintenance required extensive technical knowledge. But what could you do? There were no other options—for certain websites, regular shared hosting just wasn't enough. A private virtual server provides a significantly cheaper solution, along with high-quality, powerful storage. When you purchase storage on a virtual server, you share a physical server with other websites, but your part of the server is managed independently, and all the relevant resources are yours alone.
Why should you store your data on a virtual server?
The three main reasons are performance, information security, and affordability.
Who is virtual server storage suitable for?
If you have a large e-commerce site or are developing applications, you need a powerful and flexible hosting infrastructure. In addition, owners of financial websites that require particularly strong information security can also benefit from VPS. If you are using standard storage packages and exceeding resource limits, it may be worth upgrading to a virtual server.
What parameters are particularly important when hosting on a virtual server?
Carefully check which operating system you are getting or can install on the server. In addition, it is important to make sure you have enough storage space, processing power (we recommend at least 2 processors), and memory. It is also worth checking what access you get to the server – on Linux servers, you will usually get ROOT access to the server, allowing you to run scripts, use SSH, and perform automation, for example.
How much storage space do you need on a virtual server?
We recommend a minimum of 20GB, and more if you use cPanel and want to run regular backups.
Does the server location matter?
Despite the power of VPS, it is still important to ensure that the geographical location of the server is suitable for your website and target audience. If your target audience is Israeli, there is no reason to store abroad, and it is recommended to choose an Israeli VPS.
